MEDIA STATEMENT 88/7 CHARLES BLUNT M.P. FEDERAL NATIONAL MEMBER FOR RICHMOND SHADOW MINISTER FOR COMMUNITY SERVICES AND SHADOW MINISTER ASSISTING THE LEADER OF THE NATIONAL PARTY

BLEWETT STONEWALLS ON PROVIDING MORE DETAILS ABOUT RELEASE OF CONFIDENTIAL HIC INFORMATION

10 days after Community Services & Health Minister Blewett promised to provide simple and straightforward information on how confidential information held by the HIC was leaked to the Government's Price-Watch Committee, he has still not done so.

On Thursday 24 February 1988 I asked Dr Blewett

On what date was the request to the HIC for the information provided to the honourable member for Canning made? How was that request made? Who made the request? When was the information received in his office? When was it conveyed to

the honourable member for Canning? -

Dr Blewett said he didn't know but would find out and tell me.

As part of his defence the Minister has previously blamed his staff for this mistake.

He has obviously made enquiries about this issue.

The failure of the Minister to fulfil his undertaking to the Parliament raises the question why Dr Blewett is so slow making the facts available to the public.

Has he now decided to change tactics and protect his staff instead of bucketing them.

Or is he having trouble finding someone to be the scapegoat.

Or is he still protecting himself?
