CHARLES BLUNT M.P. .

FEDERAL NATIONAL PARTY MEMBER FOR RICHMOND SHADOW MINISTER FOR COMMUNITY SERVICES AND SHADOW MINISTER ASSISTING THE LEADER OF THE NATIONAL PARTY

LABOR OWES US 14,000 CHILD CARE PLACES PROMISED IN 1983 - 20,000 PROMISED BY UNSWORTH FOR ELECTION PURPOSES ONLY

Community Services and Health Minister Blewett today praised Labor's child care policy and the Unsworth election promise offering another 20,000 places.

Dr Blewett and the Labor Party already owe us 14,000 child care places.

Fewer than 6,000 child care places of the 20,000 promised'in the 1983 Federal Election have actually been established.

With a debt of 14,000 places, how can Mr Unsworth expect the people of NSW to believe a Labor Party promise to create another 20,000.

Labor's child care policy has failed - only 17% of people given priority of access have any child care.

People are missing out on child care because money has been . wasted.

Labor spent $323,000 on a 40 place child care centre - around the corner a private child care centre also for 40 places was built for $64,000

Labor has allowed child care subsidies to be abused yet has imposed a strictly enforced means test on family allowances.
