MEDIA RELEASE BY THE LEADER OF THE NATIONAL PARTY, IAN SINCLAIR

The Leader of the National Party, Ian Sinclair, tonight claimed that the decision by the Hawke Government to increase the price of Bass Strait crude oil was a panic move which would hurt all

Australians.

"This is another example of this Government not being able to govern responsibly and tonight's move is a sure sign of Government panic at Australia's falling dollar," Mr Sinclair said.

"The decision, which could cost motorists up to three cents a litre, will affect all sectors of the economy. .

"The hardest hit will be the rural sector.

"Farmers, facing steadily rising costs and uncertain markets, will be hurt by this price slug.

"The Hawke Government is on a tax grabbing crusade.

"With OPEC oil prices under pressure, there is room to stabilise fuel prices in Australia and give some badly-needed relief to industries which depend on fuel.

"Instead, Labor has decided to take even more out of every Australian's pocket."
