APPOINTMENTS TO AUSTRALIAN CANNED FRUITS CORPORATION

The Acting Minister for Primary Industry, Mr John Brown, today announced the appointment of Mr RL (Ron) Duprey of Saint Andrews, Victoria and Mrs ER (Eve) Mahlab of South Melbourne to the Australian Canned Fruits Corporation for

a period of three years.

Mr Brown said that the two vacancies arose as a result of recent amendments to the Act setting up the Corporation.

He said that the legislation specifies that the two new members should be qualified by reason of their experience in commerce, finance or economics.

Mr Brown said that he was sure that Mrs Mahlab and Mr Duprey would make a positive contribution to the working of the Corporation.

"Mrs Mahlab is the Executive Chairman of a management consultancy group and former Business Woman of the Year, and Mr Duprey has recently retired as Executive Director of a large manufacturing company," Mr Brown said.

"I believe that their skills and experience will provide a valuable complement to those of the existing membership of the Corporation," he said.

Mr Brown also announced that Mr PI (Peter) Rosenblum had recently been appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Corporation and Mr B (Barry) Bolitho as the grower representative on the Australian Canned Fruits Industry

Advisory Committee (ACFIAC).

"Both appointments have also been made necessary as a result of the recent legislative changes," Mr Brown said.

"Mr Rosenblum is a member of the Corporation and Chairman of ACFIAC, while Mr Bolitho has been the grower representative with observer status on ACFIAC for the last two years," he said.

Mr Brown concluded that the appointments were based on the candidates' professional qualifications, expertise and ability to make a positive contribution to the operations of the Corporation.
