Draft Report on Future Management

The Chairman of the East COast Trawl Task Force,

Mr Bernard Scott, announced today the release of the final

draft report on the proposed future management arrangements for

east coast trawl fishery.

Mr Scott said that the report was being released to

industry and government to provide interested parties with an

opportunity to comment on the findings and recommendations of

the Task Force prior to the finalisation and submission of the

report to government in July 1985.

The report outlines some of the fundamental economic,

biological, social and political problems which were evident

and provides recommendations aimed at addressing these problems.

The basic objective of the plan is to provide a stable

environment within which fishermen can operate and it looks

towards the longer term to ensure the future of the fishery.
