MEMBER FOR HIGGINS SHADOW MINISTER FOR ABORIGINAL AFFAIRS

PRESS RELEASE 3 May, 1985.

"Aboriginal Affairs Minister, Mr. Clyde Holding's overseas trip is an enormous waste of taxpayers1 money", Roger Shipton, Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, said today.

"The cost of air fares alone for Mr. Holding and his travelling entourage is in the order of $50,000. Taking into account hotel accommodation and living expenses and the fall in value of the Australian dollar, the total cost could be as much as

$100,000. This is a blatant misuse of Government funds and taxpayers' money that cannot be justified."

"Mr. Holding's expenditure on this trip will outclass even his well-known travelling colleague, Tourism Minister, John Brown."

"The Prime Minister has already indicated that Government expenditure must be controlled. He would be well advised to lock to extravagant Ministerial spending before he starts

implementing his cost cutting schemes that affect the ordinary citizen", Mr. Shipton said.
