PRESS STATEMENT

ROGER SHIPTON, M.P. SHADOW MINISTER FOR ABORIGINAL A F F A (RS

The sit-in at the Department of Aboriginal Affairs offices in Woden

today is further evidence of the on-going failure of Aboriginal Affairs

Minister Clyde Holding's policies and adminsitration.

Mr Holding has pleased no-one, least of all the Aboriginal community

which he claims to serve. He has unrealistically raised expectations

which he is now unableĀ· to deliver.

His preferred uniform land rights model is preferred by no-one.

He should abandon it and focus on the real needs facing the

Aboriginal people.

He is directly responsible for this week's scenes in Canberra.
