KERIN EXPOSES LABOR

The Minister for Primary Industry had exposed Labor's real intentions in relation to fuel pricing policy for farmers, the Deputy National Party Leader, Mr Hunt, said in Adelaide today.

Mr Hunt was commenting on Mr Kerin's reported statement from Cairns in which Mr Kerin appeared to back down from the Prime Minister's earlier promises.

He said farmers would be bewildered and outraged by Mr Kerin's latest revelation of the double standards of this union dominated Hawke Labor Government.

The Prime Minister had made encouraging statements to farmers both prior to and during.the mass rally outside Parliament House on 1 July.

"Mr Kerin now informs us that because the Government has dumped the broad based consumption tax, farmers can now expect no relief from the 25 per cent increase in fuel prices since Labor came to office.

"Mr Kerin would be well aware that the Hawke Labor Government did not have to pocket its windfall $600 million from fuel as a result of the devaluation.

"They could have rebated some of that windfall back to those heavy users of fuel who are struggling to make ends meet in agricultural production," he said.
