Leader o f the Opposition NEWS RELEASE BY JOHN HOWARD MP L53/85

‘ 1 . '

The Opposition remains totally opposed to the handover of Ayers Rock.

It was a divisive act which was offensive to the great majority of Australians.

Upon re-election the Coalition will examine the feasibility of reversing last weekend’s decision.

That has been current policy for some time.

Suggestions that such a policy stance represents any retreat from earlier statements are incorrect.

In addition the Opposition proposes that, in accordance with normal practice, a State type role such as the functional control of the Uluru National Park would pass to the Northern Territory Government.
