NEWS RELEASE BY JOHN HOWARD MP L 9 3 /8 5

SUPER DEAL WILL FORCE EMPLOYEES INTO UNIONS

The Hawke Government's cave-in to the ACTU on superannuation will compel tens of thousands of Australians to join trade unions against their will.

Under the Kelty-Keating superannuation deal employers will be forced to pay a 3 per cent productivity increase direct to superannuation funds.

This 3 per cent productivity increase has never been proved and was imposed on employers without even any consultation. ■ .

The trade union movement is determined that the money will flow to union controlled funds.

Workers who wish to benefit from the new superannuation arrangements will have to belong to trade unions.

The Kelty-Keating deal will lead to tens of thousands of Australian workers literally being dragooned into unions.

At present about 55 per cent of Australian employees belong to unions - many against their will.

The Kelty-Keating deal will lead to a significant increase in forced union membership.

This is precisely the wrong path for Australia to be

taking.

The USA has led the world economic recovery.

But in the United States union membership has fallen dramatically over recent years.

Under the Hawke Government Australia has record interest rates, a disturbingly low dollar, an ever increasing national debt, and an inflation rate that is twice that of our major trading partners.

In the light of Australia's problems it is pure economic madness for the Hawke Government to be forcing more and more employees to join trade

ur ϊ ns against their will.

It is becoming increasingly evident that all Australians are paying a heavy co&t for the

ALP-ACTU Accord.
