BRUCE LLOYD SHADOW MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT 16TH MAY 1985

The Federal Opposition has claimed that the Government's

"so-called" saving of $60m in road expenditure for

1985-86 is a deceitful exercise in phoney accounting,

and is completely illusory.

making the charge, Bruce Lloyd, Shadow Minister for

Transport, said that Mr. Morris, the Federal Minister for

Transport, confirmed the Government’s subterfuge.when he

stated in question time that the projected $l245m

expenditure will not be affected. .

Mr. Lloyd said that as this total has been publicly

touted for over five weeks any genuine cut in GovernĀ

ment road expenditure would have to mean a reduction of

$60m from the earlier $l245m announcement. "

Mr. Lloyd continued by saying that although this may be

good news for the concerned representatives of the road

construction industry, it makes a mockery of the

Government’s great claim of tough decision-making and

$1250m in expenditure reduction.'
