ELECTORAL CHANGES UNFAIR

NATIONAL PARTY SENATE LEADER, STAN COLLARD, TODAY BLASTED MOVES

BY THE AUSTRALIAN DEMOCRATS TO INTRODUCE A ONE VOTE-ONE VALUE

SYSTEM INTO AUSTRALIA'S CONSTITUTION.

SPEAKING IN CAIRNS, SENATOR COLLARD BRANDED THE MOVE AS DANGEROUS

AND BRAZENLY UNFAIR TO ALL NON-METROPOLITAN VOTERS.

"JHE OBVIOUS BIAS AGAINST NON-METROPOLITAN PEOPLE HAS BEEN

HAWKED AROUND THE COUNTRY UNDER THE GUISE OF ONE VOTE-ONE VALUE

FOR YEARS BY EVERY CITY-BASED POLITICAL PARTY WEAVE HAD," SENATOR

COLLARD SAID. : .

"IT IS STRANGE THAT; A COUNTRY THE SIZE OF AUSTRALIA AND WITH

OUR ALREADY LOPSIDED POPULATION DISTRIBUTION IS SEEKING TO GO

DOWN THAT TRACK. . JUST ABOUT EVERY OTHER DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY

USES A WEIGHTAGE SYSTEM TO ENSURE FAIRNESS·OF. REPRESENTATION,"

SENATOR COLLARD SAID.

■·' I

SENATOR COLLARD SAID THE WEIGHTAGE SYSTEM ^AS ABLE TO ENSURE

THAT POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC POWER WOULD NOT BE CENTRALISED IN

THE CITIES.

"COUNTRY PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASK WHY SUPPORTERS OF THE

ONE VOTE-ONE VALUE SYSTEM ARE TRYING TO DEVALUE THEIR VOTE.

SO EFFECTIVELY DISENFRANCHISING THEM," SENATOR COLLARD SAID.

ENDS.
