DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE SS88F INCLUDING THE AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS SERVICE

25 October 1984 IMMEDIATE RELEASE 97/84

BOUNTY, ON. AGRICULTURAL, WHEELED__TRACTQRS.,,AND.,_TRACTOR. CADS

The current bounties on agricultural wheeled tractors and tractor

cabs have been extended to 30 June 1985, the Minister for Industry

and Commerce, Senator John Button, announced today.

The Minister explained that the forthcoming election meant that a

decision on the IAC report on long term assistance is unlikely to

be ready for announcement before 31 December 1984, the scheduled

terminating date of existing bounty arrangements. An extension is

necessary if the industry was not to be left operating without

assistance. !

A decision on long term assistance will be announced as soon as

possible and any new arrangements will operate as from that date.
