PASSENGER .MOTOR VEHICLES - MARKET SHARE

The Government's assistance arrangements for the motor vehicle industry include a market sharing policy whereby, about 80 per cent of the passenger motor vehicle market is reserved for locally produced vehicles.

The Department of Industry and Commerce monitors the proportion of new passenger motor vehicle registrations accounted for by locally produced vehicles, on a six-month moving average basis. '

Based on a six-month moving average, the market share held by locally produced vehicles as at the end of February 1984 was 79.3 per cent. _

situation, stock levels and forward import orders.

2. Locally produced passenger motor vehicles are defined as passenger cars and station wagons produced under the Government's Motor Vehicle Manufacturing Plan and other assembled in Australia outside the

Plan.
