Housing Activity Holds Firm

October dwelling approvals indicate housing activity is continuing to hold firm, the Minister for Housing and Construction, Mr Stewart West, said today. ...........

Figures released by the ABS yesterday show that in seasonally adjusted terms total dwelling approvals increased in October. Private house approvals increased by over 5 per cent.

"This is very pleasing. It means the resurgence in the housing industry has remained despite the predictions of some pessimists.

Mr West said that the year had ended on a high note for the housing industry.

"Finance continues to be readily available and we look set to achieve the 145,000 dwelling commencements predicted for 1984/85 by the Indicative Planning Council," Mr West said.
