Q FEVER VACCINE

Australian scientists have completed a trial of

a vaccine for abattoir associated Q fever.

There is at present no commercially and readily available Q fever vaccine anywhere in the world.

The National Health and Medical Research Council

at its 97th Session in Sydney today received a report on the Australian trial conducted by staff of the Institute of

Medical and Veterinary Science in South Australia, the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories and South Australian

Medical Officers.

The major objectives of the trial were to establish , short and long, term side effects of the vaccine, the serological response to the vaccine and its protective effect,

to screen existing immunity and to assess the acceptability by the workforce of an immunisation campaign.
