Dr Blewett said it was anticipated that thousands of Australians would be participating in the planned activities.

He said Mental Health Week was one way of alerting Australians to critical aspects of personal and community health.

Seminars, open days in hospitals, films and discussions, health displays, competitions, and book displays will be among a wide range of activities to be carried out in each State in the next week.

"Each State organisation connected with the Australian National Association for Mental Health has this year arranged activities and events for anyonesin the community interested in ensuring that life for the elderly is as fulfilling, active, and rewarding as possible, with the objective of developing and maintaining their mental
