JOINT STATEMENT BY FEDERAL AND STATE HEALTH AUTHORITIES

URGENT BABY FOOD RECALL

Federal and State health authorities today warned

mothers of babies not to use any can of DE-LACT INFANT baby

food with the batch number G203H and USE BY JUN 86 stamped

on the bottom of the c a n .

In an urgent recall notice issued today, the health

authorities warned pharmacists and mothers of babies to check

the bottom of each can of the baby food and said any can

stamped with these markings should not be fed to babies.

The authorities said several cans bearing these

markings had been found to contain calcium caseinate which/if

given to a baby continuously,, in place of DE-LACT INFANT or

another milk formula, could have grave consequences for the

child.

' Only cans of DE-LACT INFANT stamped as described

were affected.

The Federal and State health authorities said any

person finding one of the cans should return it to the pharmacy

or other retail supplier from which it had been purchased or

contact the product sponsor* Sharpe Laboratories Pty Ltd

of Artarmon, N.S.W. Any DE-LACT can on which the markings

were unable to be read should be returned also.

DE-LACT INFANT is fed only to babies who cannot

tolerate the milk component, lactose.
