CEP JOBS IN NSW TOP 22,000

More than 22,000 jobs have been approved In NSW under the Federal

Government's Community Employment Program (CEP).

To date, 4485 projects have been approved in NSW a t t r a c t i n g

Federal funding in excess of $222 m i l l i o n under CEP.

These include 434 new jobs approved in the l a t e s t round of

CEP pr oj ect s, d e t a i l s of which were announced today by the

Federal Mi n i s t er for Employment and Indust r i al Rel at ions,

Mr Ralph W i l l i s , and the NSW Mi n i s t er for Employment and Finance,

Mr Bob Debus.

The Ministers said the l a t e s t jobs w i l l be generated in 116

new projects sponsored by State and Local Government Aut hor i t i es

and community groups throughout NSW. Total cost of the new

proj ects is $4.6 m i l l i o n , of which $3.7 m i l l i o n is being

provided under CEP.

The new projects are located in south western Sydney and the

North Coast/New England, Hunter, Central Coast, I l l a w a r r a and

Riverina d i s t r i c t s of NSW.

An average of 33 weeks work w i l l be avai l a bl e on the new

projects.

CEP provides short-term work experience for disadvantaged j o b ­

seekers such as the long-term unemployed, women, Aborigines

and people with d i s a b i l i t i e s .

All positions w i l l be f i l l e d through the Commonwealth Employment

Service ( CES ).
