TERRITORY WELL REPRESENTED AT CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION

The election o f David Curtis and Michael Kilgariff to the Constitutional Convention would provide competent and excellent representation for the diverse interests of Territorians, CLP Senator Grant Tambling said today

Senator Tambling said David Curtis’ experience in Central Australia and role as an ATSIC Commissioner would guarantee a voice for remote and indigenous issues.

"Michael K ilgariff s links to the Territory’s pioneering history and understanding o f the Territory’s commercial future will also bring an important balance to the Convention,” he said

‘‘The Territory’s march to statehood for the past 20 years, and current proposals to develop a special Territory constitution, will give David Curtis and Michael Kilgariff a platform to push the Territory’s cause within the Republican movement, o f which I am a staunch supporter, throughout Australia.”

Senator Tambling said with the added involvement o f Chief Minister Shane Stone, youth appointee Moira O ’Brien, sports leader Nova Peris-Kneebone and ATSIC Chair Gatjil Djerrkura the Territory would have real clout and its voice would be heard.

Senator Tambling commended the AEC for the efficient conduct o f the poll in the Territory including special effort in many remote communities.
