THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THE MINISTER FOR JUSTICE

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of renewed Ministerial appointments, Attorney General Daryl Williams and Minister for Justice Senator" Amanda Vanstone have determined the allocation of portfolio responsibilities on the following basis:

Mr Williams said he looked forward to working with Senator Vanstone and to the challenges and responsibilities that come from being promoted to Cabinet.

“The separation of the duties of Attorney General and Minister for Justice means Senator Vanstone and I will provide even greater focus on law reform to continue the Government’s work to achieve balance, equity and justice for all Australians,” Mr Williams said.

Senator Vanstone said; “Dividing the Attorney General and Minister for Justice portfolios will give legal affairs a much higher profile.”

“I look forward to drawing on my portfolio experience as shadow minister, Deputy Chair of the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee and Deputy Chair of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the National Crime Authority and to working with Mr Williams.”
