New appointments to AMLC board announced

Primary Industries and Energy Minister, Simon Crean. announced today the appointment of three members of the Australian Meat and Livestock Corporation (AMLC) and two re-appointments.

Mr Crean said M r Ronald Cotton, M r Gerald Martin and M r Tony Mullan had been appointed to the Board for a period ending in July 1995.

Mr Crean also announced he had re-appointed Mr Ian Kennedy to the Board in July, and that the Government member, Mr Graham McGregor, had also been re-appointed, for a three year term commencing at the end of August .

"The Government is pleased both have been able to accept further terms on the Corporation's Board," he said.

Referring to the new appointees, Mr Crean said Mr Cotton had considerable experience in business finance. He owns a business management consultancy firm and his previous positions include Group Managing Director - Operations with John Fairfax Limited, Group General Manager and Controller of Ampol Petroleum, and Assistant to the Deputy Controller of Waltons/Sears. Mr Cotton was also National President of the Australian Society of

Accountants in 1983-84. :

The Minister said Mr Martin had been appointed for his experience in livestock production. He has owned and managed properties for the past 18 years, and was member of the Meat Research Corporation from 1985 to 1990. Mr Martin is currently a member of the AMLC Australian Lamb Promotion Committee.

Mr Mullan has extensive experience in meat processing and promotion. He has been involved in livestock production, processing and trading in meat, both in Australia and overseas. He opened the first pre-packed meat shop in Australia and was the National President of the Meat and Allied Trades Federation of Australia from 1988 to 1991.

The Minister said he had accepted a further recommendation of the Australian Meat and Livestock Industry Selection Committee in relation to the filling of a vacancy that will arise in December, and would be announcing this appointment at the appropriate time.

"I would like to thank the three retiring members, Mr Bill Hunter, Mr Scott Ashton-Jones and Mr Robin Hart for their services to industry. They have all made a valuable contribution to the industry, and the Government greatly appreciates their efforts," M r Crean said.
