ADDITIONAL RURAL COUNSELLING SERVICE FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The Minister for Primary Industries and Energy, Simon Crean, approved a new rural counselling service for the town of Geraldton during today's visit to W estern Australia. .

"The new service will complement the established service at Morawa by extending north to Exmouth and east to Wiluna. It will include the towns of Mount Magnet, Meekatharra, Carnarvon and Paraburdoo," Mr Crean

said.

The Geraldton Family Counselling Service which initiated the establishment of a Rural Counselling Service, has been providing a local part-tim e rural counselling service since April 1991.

Through the Rural Counselling Program, farming families are able to obtain free financial and associated personal counselling on issues affecting the operation of the farm. Counsellors are required to have

training in farm financial analysis and be familiar with State and Commonwealth assistance programs as well as other community services available to rural families.

"Farmers in the Geraldton region and northern parts of the State will havd access to financial advice that was previously not available," the Minister said. '
