DELAYS IN APPOINTMENT OF TOURISM BOARD A DISGRACE

Failure o f the Howard Government to announce the composition of the Australian Tourism Commission (ATC) Board is creating uncertainty, Shadow Minister for Tourism Stephen Martin, said today.

"The ATC Board was sacked by Tourism Minister John Moore following the March Election. No meeting o f the Board, which sets policy for Australia's major export revenue earning industry, has occurred since early May, Mr Martin said.

"This is an absolute disgrace.

"As I move around Australia and talk to tourism operators and the major tourism organisations, they all express dismay at the attitude of the Minister and the Government.

Mr Martin said that it was imperative that this insensitivity be addressed immediately.

"With Australia continuing to attract millions o f visitors in the holiday and convention markets, the Board must be in place to oversee the economic benefits to our country, Mr Martin said.
