KEATING ADMITS GOVERNMENT IS CULPABLE ON AIR TERMINALS

The Prime Minister's admission on the 'Sunday' Programme this morning that airline deregulation cannot succeed without common use terminals is a condemnation of. the Government's Aviation Policy - and proves that the Government has some responsibility

for the collapse of Compass Airlines.

Federal Shadow Minister for Tourism and Aviation, David Jull, said today that the admission was proof that despite some poor management at' Compass, domestic deregulation was flawed without deregulation of Terminal facilities. The Opposition has been

pointing this out for years.

The fact that Mr Keating now intends to provide common user terminals for any new players is proof positive of the mess Ministers Morris, Beazley and Collins and ex-Prime Minister Hawke have perpetuated on the Australian travelling public.

There is no doubt that the Prime Minister intends to now follow the Coalition's aviation policy for domestic aviation.

Let's hope he has the intestinal fortitude to follow it to the letter - including the opening up of the international market, the Privatisation of Airports, the 100% privatisation of Qantas, the signing of the CER agreement with New Zealand on aviation and open slather for charter flights.

If he doesn't, Australians and the Tourist industry will never enjoy the full benefits aviation can bring in a deregulated world.

His admission today that the Government had failed to properly deregulate domestic aviation is a start - he has a long way to go before he establishes any real credibility in Australian Aviation.
