BIG BROTHER BLEWETT

Labor's "Big Brother" Government is endangering the integrity of honest citizens.

Unless controlled, it represents a serious threat to the privacy of every Australian.

A self-employed electrician, Mr David Hudson, of Berkeley Vale on the NSW central coast is a case in point.

Mr Hudson, who is not in receipt of Job Search Allowance, discovered that a number of his clients had been contacted by the Department of Social Security implying that he was

defrauding welfare. Access to this information must have come from the Prescribed Payments System.

Damaging letters and questionnaires to clients about Mr Hudson were sent by the Department's Adelaide office despite the fact that Mr Hudson was living and working in New South Wales and always has.

At no stage did the Department bother to ask Mr Hudson.

The first he heard about his alleged fraud was when his

clients told him he was being investigated. / Subsequently the department admitted to Mr Hudson that they had made a mistake and had confused him with another Hudson in Adelaide.

When he asked them to contact his clients to put the record straight the Department claimed this could not be done because the information had been destroyed t

Mr Hudson is trying to do business in a relatively small central coast community with a cloud hanging over his

integrity and he cannot do anything about it.

I demand that the Minister order his department to clear Mr Hudson's name immediately and ensure that similar cases do not occur in future.

A good name is the most precious possession of every

Australian.

No "big-brother" Labor government has the right to destroy it.
