JULIAN BEALE, M.H.R. Federal Mem ber for Bruce Shadow Minister for Privatisation

MEDIA RELEASE

VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT WILL PROPOSE FURTHER PRIVATISATION

The Victorian Government will propose further privatisation of the State's power industry shortly, according to the Federal Member for Bruce and Shadow Minister for Privatisation, Julian Beale.

A State Parliamentary Committee has already discussed giving SEC workers shares in the privatised SEC assets.

Further SEC privatisation moves follow contingency plans being drawn up by the Victorian Government for a post-Budget election.

Government sources claim that a likely time for the next State election is near the AFL grand final in late September.

The Victorian Government is desperate to raise funds in an attempt to show some fiscal responsibility in its next Budget.

The privatisation of part of the Loy Yang B power station is already under way.

The privatisation of part of the Gas and Fuel Corporation is still under Government consideration.

Privatisation moves by a Socialist Left Government are an endorsement of the advantages of taking enterprises out of the hands of the bureaucracy.

It is vital that the Government takes every opportunity to allow workers to own shares in privatised enterprises.
