FULL INQUIRY ESSENTIAL FOR TAB I CONTRACTING OUT NEEDED

Public confidence in the Victorian TAB will be seriously eroded unless a full inquiry is held into its management systems, the Federal Member for Bruce and Shajdow Minister for Privatisation, Julian Beale, said today.

Allegations of sales tax evasion by the TAB must be investigated immediately.

An independent outside audit is required to restore public confidence.

Allegations of ex-gratia payments after the event to a senior official also demand investigation.

Claims of computer irregularities can be cleared up only by an independent audit.

The TAB should look at once at contracting out some of its

accounting, computing and auditing services.

Allegations of fraud in a part of the printing division are to be heard in the courts.

The Federal Government must step in to ensure the integrity of its sales tax system.

The Federal Government is also having further sales tax problems because its new sales tax legislation appears to have a

detrimental affect on Australian charities.
