KEATING GOVERNMENT LOCKED INTO CIVIL WAR ON PRIVATISATION

The Keating Government is locked in a civil war over the privatisation issue, the Federal Member for Bruce and Shadow Minister for Privatisation, Julian Beale, said in Melbourne today.

He was addressing the H R Conference on "Privatisation in Australia" at the Windsor Hotel.

The Budget estimates for Government assets sales and privatisation are barely as credible as the now discarded One Nation figures.

The assets sales forecasts and the Budget figures have an early "USE BY" date implanted.

Investors still don't know whether the ALP Left will try again to overturn the airlines sales policy.

The policy has already been changed several times, so once more would not be unpredictable.

The forces supporting Deputy Prime Minister Brian Howe are implacably opposed to privatisation.

The Government has been consistently wrong in its privatisation and assets sales figures in the last four Budgets. Last year they were out by 148 percent.

Why should any national or international investor believe the figures in this pre-election Budget?

Keating has created an immense gap between himself and the investment communities. Large numbers of investing institutions regard him as a comic figure out of touch with national and international realities.

After four Budgets of false figures why should the Government's privatisation plans be treated with any credibility?
