OANTAS SALE BLUNDER: MAJOR FAILURE OF THE HAWKE/KEATING ERA

The Qantas sale blunder has become one of the major failures of the Hawke/Keating era, Federal Member for Bruce and Shadow Minister for Privatisation, Julian Beale, said today.

So far, the sale date has been postponed four times and the terms of sale altered at least three times.

This fiasco has closely involved senior Ministers, Willis, Beazley, Dawkins and Keating.

Ministers Willis and Dawkins have now put the sale date back once again.

Minister Willis now admits that Qantas will not be sold until after the next Federal election.

International investors, upon whom the Government is relying for funds, have been confounded by constant rule changes.

Meanwhile, Qantas remains uncertain of its future and grossly under capitalised.

This is a sad way to treat our once great international airline.

The Prime Minister should step in and take the Qantas sale out of the hands of Willis and his bumbling Finance Ministry.
