DECISION ON QANTAS TRADE SALE NOW PUSHED INTO 1993

The Qantas trade sale decision will now be pushed into the new year, the Federal Member for Bruce and Shadow Minister for Privatisation, Julian Beale, said today.

This is yet another delay in the list of muddles, postponements, date changes and rule changes that have plagued the Qantas sale process.

Dithering by the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and Finance Minister Willis has cost the Australian taxpayer hundreds of millions of dollars.

The Asset Sales Task Force process has broken down.

In the meantime, Qantas has remained under capitalised and unable to realise its full value.

Our great national airline has been substantially reduced in value by a drowsy Finance Minister and Paul - policy on the run - Keating.

Canberra sources claim that the Government will not be able to consider the Qantas trade sale bids before late January, which means another Budget blowout.

The Keating Government can only be described as being severely, cerebrally challenged.
