AUSTRALTANK TRT.T. KEATING TO GET BACK TO THE MAIN GAME

It is clearly time for Mr Keating to wave the white flag in the debate about Australia's flag.

The Prime Minister told Parliament last week that he would not change the flag "without clear evidence of public support". The Prime Minister got his clear expression of public opinion today.

The Quadrant poll, reported in today's Herald-Sun, shows that 65% of Australians believe that the present flag should stay.

The Quadrant poll clearly shows that Australians do not want Mr Keating to change the flag. He should now end the divisive debate which he started when he announced in Indonesia that he wanted a new Australian flag.

It is time for Mr Keating to discard the distraction of the flag debate and get back onto the main game.

In the midst of Mr Keating's Great Recession, Australians want action to reform the economy, create real jobs to lower the unacceptably high level of unemployment and make our industries world competitive so that we can start to reduce Australia's

unacceptably high level of foreign debt.
