MINISTER FOR INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS SENATOR PETER COOK

INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES DOWN

Today's ABS industrial dispute figures confirm the significant downward trend experienced since Federal Labor came to power in 1983.

In the year to November 1991, Victoria recorded its lowest rate of industrial disputation since 1985.

Since 1983 Victoria has recorded the largest decline in strikes of any State.

The rate of industrial disputation in Victoria has fallen by 72 per- cent since 1983, compared with the Fraser years.

The rate of industrial disputation in Australia has fallen 60 per cent during the same time.

The reduction in strikes under the Accord agreement is of great economic significance.

Not only does it mean increased production, but it means Australia is viewed internationally as a much more reliable trading partner.

It reflects the new cooperative attitude in Australian workplaces advanced by Labor.
