NEW CHILD CARE CENTRE OPENS IN NORTH CANBERRA

Parents who live or work in North Canberra now have access to a new child care centre which will be officially opened today by Gary Johns, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health, Housing and Community Services on behalf of the

Federal Minister for Aged, Family and Health Services, Peter Staples.

"It is a great achievement and thanks to the perseverance of the sponsor, Wattle Child Care Association, in Lyneham, North Canberra can now benefit from this new 25 place child care centre," Mr Johns said.

"With the development of Gunghalin in the northern region of Canberra, this new centre will be available for parents from those suburbs on their usual routes to and from work."

"The centre is wholly Federal Government funded and while not included in the places already in operation under the National Child Care Strategy, it will add 25 valuable places to the ACT."

The cost of purchase and renovations for the centre totalled $280,678.00. The recurrent operational funding to the 25 place centre will be $23,618 per annum and capital funding of $10,625 for equipment was also provided to the centre.
