TREASURER

EMBARGO

PRESS RELEASE VN. 2 / 9/92

BACKDOW N ON MOVIE PRICE INCREASES

The Minister Assisting the Treasurer, Peter Baldwin, has

welcomed the decision by Roadshow Distributors to drop

the proposed new pricing formula for cinemas exhibiting

the film LETHAL WEAPON I I I .

Under the proposal independent exhibitors were to be

charged a flat fee for each person attending the movie,

as opposed to the current formula based on a percentage

of profits.

Mr Baldwin had asked the Prices Surveillance Authority to

look into the matter after independent cinema operators

claimed that the new formula would mean big increases in

ticket prices for movie goers.

"Fortunately there is now no need for an inquiry as the

film's distributors, Roadshow Distributors, have chosen

not to proceed with the proposed new formula," Mr Baldwin

said.
