Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women

EMBARGOED UNTIL 3PM JULY 5, 1992

LAUNCH OP FEMINIST THEOLOGY FOUNDATION

Women's struggle for equality in the Church has entered a new era with the establishment of Australia's first foundation for feminist theology, according to the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women.

On the eve of this week's historic Anglican General Synod, Ms Fatin was in Sydney today to launch the Australian Feminist Theology Foundation and 'Changing Women Changing Church', a collection of essays in honour of the founder of the movement

for the ordination of women. Dr Patricia Brennan.

'This week. Synod will be once again seeking to resolve the issue of the ordination of women into the Anglican Church,' Ms Fatin said.

'Today it is fitting not only to pay tribute to Dr Brennan's pioneering role in working towards a more just, equitable and compassionate church community, but to anticipate the * Foundation's contribution to feminist theology.'
