HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION FOR OLDER PEOPLE OF HUNGARIAN BACKGROUND

Older people of Hungarian background will benefit from $401,000 in capital funding approved today by the Federal Minister for Aged, Family and Health Services, Peter Staples.

The funding will provide culturally appropriate hostel facilities under the Government's access and equity program.

Clayton Church Homes Inc has been approved to establish an eight place hostel specifically to meet the needs of older people in the Hungarian community.

The hostel will also receive subsidies to assist with operating costs.

"This funding serves as a confirmation of my Government's policy on access and equity, and the particular cultural needs of frail aged from Australia's ethnic communities - a policy which is aimed at building a better future for older people," Mr Staples said.

The hostel will adjoin another new hostel on the same site. A grant of over $451,000 for the other project was announced in October 1991 by Mr Staples, bringing the total funding for the two projects to over $852,000.
