The Federal Minister for Aged, Family and Health Services, Peter Staples, today announced funding of up to $20,000 for a national forum for Family Day Care carers.

The Careproviders of South Australia Inc, a body representing the Family Day Care Carers in South Australia, has been invited to host the forum in Adelaide in December.

"This is the first time carers from around Australia will have had an opportunity to get together as a group to become involved in setting the future directions of Family Day Care in Australia," Mr Staples said.

"The actual 'grass-roots' care providers will have the opportunity to discuss issues that directly affect their everyday working life."

Mr Staples said Family Day Care was an integral part of the provision of children's services in Australia.

"It provides care for more than 60,000 children each week in the private homes of carers," he said.

"There are more than 13,000 carers in Family Day Care schemes throughout the nation.

"Each of these small business people provides a great range of skills and caring attention to the children they are responsible for."
