MORE SUPPORT FOR MULTICULTURAL CHILD CARE

Children from non-English speaking backgrounds will receive more support to help their inclusion into private and employer-sponsored child care centres.

The Multicultural Child Care Unit will provide the support through an additional grant of $28,255 announced today by the Federal Minister for Aged, Family and Health Services, Peter Staples.

The additional funding is part of the Federal Government's Social Justice Strategy which includes offering greater access for all children to child care services.

"This initiative will be of great benefit to the families of children from non-English speaking backgrounds and will give parents greater choice in making care arrangements," Mr Staples said.

Mr Staples said that additional Supplementary Services funding would enhance the quality of existing children's services, making them more flexible and appropriate to the needs of all children, regardless of disability, location or

cultural background.
