GOVERNMENT COVER-ϋΡ ON FIGHTBACK!

The Government plans to hold back some of the material I

requested under the Freedom of Information Act on the Coalition's Fightback! package.

We will take legal advice with a view to appealing this decision to withhold information that has been put together at taxpayers' expense.

It has been like pulling teeth to get the Government to provide the analysis of Fightback! They have been holding back because the Treasury's commentary is favourable overall to Fightback!

. The Treasury, the Australian Taxation Office and the

Department of Finance agree with our costings for the overwhelming majority of expenditure and taxation items, and, for the balance, the debate is about assumptions.

. The Government has yet to challenge our estimate of the net one-off price effect of the Goods and Services Tax package.

We won't be satisfied until the Government stops this cover-up and releases all the commentary on Fightback!; including the more favourable commentary.

P.S. Mr Reith will be available to discuss this matter at 2.00pm today outside the office of Senator Rod Kemp, 12 Pascoe Vale Road, Moonie Ponds, in the Electorate of Wills, where he will be participating in the first letterbox drop for the Wills by-election.
