DAWKINS COMMITS TO RELEASING TAX POLICY

Today in Question Time, Treasurer Dawkins made a commitment to reveal the Government's secret tax plans at the time of the next election.

Mr Dawkins made this commitment twice in the Parliament today.

In reply to my first question to him about the Government's secret plans to increase domestic interest withholding tax, fringe benefits tax and money from the prescribed payments system, Mr Dawkins said:

"But if at a time closer to the next election we want to maintain the option of considering those options, we will release the details of them."

In reply to my second question to him about the Government's secret plans to increase domestic interest withholding tax, fringe benefits tax and money from the prescribed payments system, Mr Dawkins said:

"But Mr Speaker we may do one or two of them. We may do none of them. But if at the time of the next election we want to maintain that option, we will tell you all about it and we will tell the people of Australia."

From the moment Mr Dawkins released the 1992 budget, he had no option but to release the full details of his plans to increase tax. He should reveal his secret plans now.
