29 January 1992

Philip Ruddock, Federal Member for Dundas wishes to advise all young people who have just finished High School and who plan to go on to tertiary study that they may be entitled to Austudy payments to cover costs whilst at University or College.

"I congratulate all Year 12 students who have just completed their HSC and for those who are planning to go on to tertiary study", Philip Ruddock said.

In addition, children 16 years or over who are studying full-time approved Secondaiy or Tertiary Courses may be entitled to a study allowance.

Austudy is an Australian Government scheme which provides money for study to those eligible over 16 years of age. Austudy is designed to assist only those who need it most, and thus there is a parental and personal income test which establishes whether students are in financial need.

All applications for Austudy, for the first semester of the 1992 year, must be lodged by 31st March. If a child is turning 16 this year, applications can be accepted four weeks prior to the child's birthday.

Further information can be obtained either from Philip Ruddock's office, on 858 1011 or from your local CES Office.
