w MEDIA RELEASE DR BOB WOODS Shadow Minister for Heaith

I have been honoured to receive requests from residents of Berowra that I run for preĀ selection for that seat following the retirement of Harry Edwards.

I believe that the paramount consideration in this matter should be what is best for the Party rather than for myself or my family.

It is vital that we retain the seat of Lowe to ensure that John Hewson becomes Prime Minister of Australia and that this country is rescued from the morass into which the Labor Government has led it.

I have been fortunate enough to win Lowe twice against the odds and I am sure that with the help of the wonderful party members and supporters in the Inner West, I can hold it at the next election.

Party unity, and the perception of unity is vital for our success. A preselection battle between two Liberal front benchers would potentially be damaging for our electoral prospects,

I have therefore decided that I will not nominate for preselection for the seat of Berowra.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate Harry Edwards for his exemplary service to the Party over the last two decades. He is a fine man who has done an excellent job for the good people of Berowra. I wish him well for the future.
