VICTORIAN ELECTION RESULT GOOD, BUT SELFISH GOSS HAS ADDED TO KEATING'S

PROBLEMS.

FISCHER CONGRATULATES (FELLOW OTU GRADUATE) KENNETT

Commenting on the Victorian election results, Federal Leader of the National Party, Tim Fischer has pointed out that the Victorian Labor rout will now completely swamp the Goss Queensland Labor 1 soft' win.

"In one sense, Queensland Premier Goss has been vindicated with his decision to hold a snap election, however he has left Federal Labor stranded on two counts.

"Firstly, because Victoria is a more populous State and because there has been a landslide against Labor, this image will dominate.

"If Queensland had waited until after Victoria, Labor would have been left with a more positive lead into the Christmas period.

"Secondly, Goss on the 1 Sunday1 program, immediately after the Queensland elections, went out of his way to emphasise the 1 State only1 aspect of the Queensland elections, thus denying Keating any support.

VICTORIAN ELECTIONS.

"I congratulate fellow OTU graduate and fellow 1st Battalion Platoon Commander, Jeff Kennett and the Victorian Coalition on their outstanding win.

"I also congratulate Pat McNamara (Leader of the State Nationals) on his excellent campaign and win. In addition, I congratulate new National Party MPs, Peter Ryan in Gippsland South and Barry Bishop in North West Province on their big wins.

"The size of the swing augers well for the Federal elections whenever they are held."

Mr Fischer added that he is now confident that Keating will not interfei with his November Wedding plans by calling an early Election; in any event, to make sure, he and his bride to be, Judy have chosen a week daj rather than a Saturday for the occasion.

Nb.Re the Goss 'soft" win. Outside of Brisbane there was a 4% plus swing against Labor and four 'key' seats have been won by the National Party including Hinchibrook and Charters Towers in the Federal Seat of Kennedy and Keppel in the Federal Seat of Capricornia.

This should have been a Goss 'Wranslide' election but this was not the case!
