From July 1, Australian electors must be prepared for a Federal Election which will be without precedent in Australian history and which will have major implications for the future of the Nation.

Federal Leader of the National Party, Tim Fischer, speaking in Port Macquarie said the choice is no longer between a Labor Party with an identifiable policy manifesto and the Coalition Parties with their business

and jobs policies. It is now a choice between Labor, the Party of

opportunism and the consistent Conservatives.

"This coming Federal Election will be the most vicious on record, and I will be placing the Federal National Parliamentary Party on 'Red Alert' from 1 July ready for an election that could be called at any moment.

"Australian electors will be faced with two choices, whether to vote for a party which is ostensibly Socialist but which has proved that it will overthrow everything in order to remain in government including turn against Australian workers, all but bankrupt the nation and have scant regard for good Government, Leadership or the future, or the consistent, reliable and economically sensible Coalition.

"I warn that the level of lies pedalled by a cornered Labor Government will reach a crescendo and there will be an attempt to persuade electors that they have adopted the best of the Coalition's policies.

•Today's 'Sunday' program proved that the Government is running from one populist 'band aid' solution to another when Employment Minister Beasley clearly indicated to Laurie Oakes that he didn't know what Paul Keating had in mind for the Youth Jobs Summit. Beasley was clearly completely caught out in relation to a matter within his own Portfolio.

"This cynical approach to piecemeal policy formulation will fool no-one, least of all the almost 1 million unemployed or the bankrupt business people and farmers across the nation.

"Never the less, the Coalition cannot be complacent. We have in place a major policy platform in Fightbackl which is a revolutionary blueprint for the successful management of the Australian economy."

"Fightbackl has weathered six months of concerted challenge and I am not advocating change, it is a living, breathing policy which is responsive to new demands and different circumstances and is not a rock hard political manifesto created in some back room or by some faction as is the case with ALP policy formulation."

Mr Fischer was commenting at the conclusion of the NSW State Conference of the National Party held at Port Macquarie which he said was one of the largest and most constructive ever held. Ends 21 June 1992
