KEATING'S NOT SO PROUD RECORD: 300% PLUS INCREASE IN FUEL· EXCISE

Federal Leader of the National Party, Tim Fischer said today that the Federal Labor Government will stand condemned by its own record when it offers itself to the electors, hopefully sooner rather than later.

"No matter what 'tinkering' appears in tomorrow's Budget the record shows that this Government is a high taxing Government that has milked the productive sector to finance its own

profligacy and irresponsible spending.

"Since 1 9 8 2 - 8 3 , Petroleum Products Excise has risen from $ 1 3 6 4 million to $ 7 0 7 5 million, in real terms it has trebled!

"This cynical exercise in milking Australian motorists, the transport industry, business, tourists, farmers, fishermen, manufacturers and miners strikes at the productive core of the Australian economy.

"The Coalition in Fightback! will abolish Fuel Excise completely.

"I CHALLENGE TREASURER DAWKINS IN TOMORROW'S BUDGET TO EMBARK ON REAL REFORM AND HE NEED LOOK NO FURTHER THAN FIGHTBACK'S!

ABOLITION OF PETROL AND DIESEL FUEL EXCISE, CREATING A SAVING OF $11.40 EACH TIME AN AVERAGE SIZE FUEL TANK IS FILLED.
