KEITH WRIGHT VACATES - NATIONALS STEP IN

Speaking in Rockhampton, Federal Leader of the National Party, Tim Fischer, said today that Keith Wright's decision to vacate Capricornia was curious, but the Nationals would fill the void.

"I am genuinely sorry to hear Mr Wright is not well and I wish him well on the personal health front", Mr Fischer said.

"However, on the political front, it is now clear that Mr Wright is quitting Capricornia, perhaps sooner rather than later.

"In any event, Mr Wright has announced he is leaving the electorate for the next few days, and therefore the Nationals will fill the void.

"I am in Capricornia and adjoining Hinkler electorates for the next two days and National Party Senators (including Bill O'Chee) will be available through Margaret Goody's Rockhampton office.

"In these tough economic times, made worse by the Dawkins Budget, electors must have Merpber of Parliament level access available at most times."

i

Mr Fischeradded he was quietly confident Margaret Goody, candidate for Capricornia, and Paul Neville, candidate for Hinkler, will win the two key seats for the National Party, especially following the Cattlemen's Union's 'No Confidence' vote in Brian

Courtice.
