Senator Grant Tambling Shadow Minister for Community Services, External Territories and Northern Australia

Australia's regional links will be on the agenda of Northern Territory Senator Grant Tambling when he visits Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Thailand this month.

Senator Tambling leaves Australia tomorrow as Deputy Leader of a five-member bipartisan delegation from the Australian Parliament.

The delegation will attend the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organisation meeting in Jakarta from September 21-26 to

participate in two sessions and renew contacts with ASEAN parliamentarians.

"The delegation will also visit an aircraft and helicopter factory in Bandung and meet Indonesian Ministers and senior government officials in Jakarta," Senator Tambling said.

"I hope to discuss issues of significance to Northern Australia such as the Timor Gap, the Northern Territory's links with Indonesia's eastern provinces and fishing arrangements."

In Papua New Guinea, the group will assess the outcome of recent elections, visit an aid project in the Eastern Highlands and attend Independence Day celebrations.

Similarly in Thailand, the delegation will receive briefings on the recent elections, bilateral relations and the Thai economy.

Senator Tambling cold ho looked forward to reviewing commercial and investment opportunities in the three countries, visiting Australian aid projects and strengthening political contacts.
