Media Release David Jull, Shadow Minister for Tourism & Aviation

ISSUED· . 13-11-91

The Prime Minister must not surrender to the demands of a noisy minority opposed to the construction of a third runway at Sydney Airport.

David Jull, Shadow Minister for Tourism and Aviation, issued the warning today in response to Labor moves against'the project.

"These Labor dissidents have delayed this vital project for 8 years," David Jull said.

"They've had long enough to state their case. Any further delay would be intolerable.

"With hundreds of thousands of people out of work it is

outrageous that these narrow minded critics remain so short sighted. They should immediately explain their hostility to the thousands of people who will gain jobs from the project.

"Mr Hawke should have the courage to ignore these malcontents and 'take a decision in the interests of all Australians.

"For so long he has been obsessed with keeping his own job. For once, he should take a decision to give jobs to the hundreds of thousands he has thrown out of work.

"This is a major test for the Prime Minister. He's failed so often in the past. He cannot afford to fail this time."
