Snowdon supports use o f force The Territory MHIt, Mr Warren Snowdon, supported yesterday the use of force to expel Iraq from Kuwait.

Speaking In the House of Representatives, Mr Snowdon said “the bottom line is that the world community cannot allow Saddam Hussein and those who follow him to con­ tinue to perpetrate similar barbarities to those he had inflicted on his own people and the people of Kuwait” .

Middle E ast," he said. But Mr Snowdon called for the UN to play a more active role in securing peace and stability in the Middle East.

“The United Nations should

pursue a lasting resolution of the many problems which be­ set the Middle E ast,” Mr

Snowdon said. “It is imperative that plan­ ning begin for a UN conference on the Middle East and that this is seen as an integral component of the peace process."

Mr Snowdon also called for the United Nations to address the position of Palestinians

while ensuring the continuing security of Israel. Senator Tambling accused Ira q i P re sid e n t Saddam

Hussein of flouting internat­ ional and UN overtures since · August 2 last year. “No one wants war, but the !

brutality of Iraq has left civi­ lised nations with no alternat­ ives,” he said. Senator Tambling attacked Mr Snowdon for sponsoring a street peace rally.
